In August of 2015, Vanity Fair ran articles castigating hookup traditions. The writer prophesized a “dating apocalypse” and decried the multifarious dating software of the day. The article pointed a finger at, amongst others, Hinge for “ swiping love from screen. ”
In those days, Hinge’s app–just like Tinder and Bumble–allowed visibility swiping, an element influenced by slot machine games psychology and widely blamed for trivializing contemporary relationship. But unlike another giants of the day, Hinge got paying attention.
In a 2021 interview , Hinge founder and Chief Executive Officer Justin McLeod advised mirror Fair that the internet dating apocalypse post had sparked a demanding interrogation of the property value swiping to Hinge’s people as well as its influence on their own schedules.
